I think your suggestion as outlined in the letter, harkens back to a time when we had the Office of Science and Technology and an expert leading as Director. Additionally the appointments to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST),which finally occurred this past March has left us bereft. Other than Martinis, the entire lot are CEOs of tech or adjacent companies with little diversity- only two women, and mostly white or Asian. We used to have a President's Bioethics Council for emerging tech... like Stem Cell Research etc. It seems to me that AI is in the same vein requiring ethical conversation.
